Police Commissioner Dermot Shea is wrong in stating that these raids are appropriate and that no-knock warrants are necessary. I have authored a bill that would rid our state of this practice for good, except in extreme situations where no other alternatives are present.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea defended his officers’ use of no-knock warrants claiming that ending the police tactic would be a “large mistake.”

“This is something we’ve gotta reevaluate now,” the mayor said in response to a question about a Queens family of six whose apartment was raided by mistake. “That could have gone in a very bad direction. We’ve gotta really do everything we can to avoid something like that happening.”
