So long as that person's name was Elaine.
Elaine Thompson-Herah blew away a much-decorated field in the 200 meters Tuesday night. The latest sprint star from Usain Bolt's island country of Jamaica completed her second straight Olympic sprint sweep in 21.53 seconds, the second-fastest time in history.
“It means a lot to me to be in that history, to be in that work-hard book,” said Thompson-Herah, who spent much of 2021 ailing with an Achilles injury and didn't reach top form until she got to Japan.
It marked the second time in four nights that Thompson-Herah has won a sprint and recorded a time that fell short of only the late Florence Griffith Joyner's hallowed, 33-year-old world records. The 200 record is 21.34.

Josh Cascio reports
TAMPA, Fla. - He’s barely old enough to drive a car, but 17-year-old Erriyon Knighton has the kind of horsepower few in the world possess.
Wednesday, he's putting it on full display in Tokyo.
"I’m not surprised by anything. The kid puts in the work," said Knighton’s track coach Jonathan Terry.
The soon-to-be senior at Hillsborough High School has qualified for and will compete for a chance at gold in the men's 200-meter final Wednesday morning.
"It is uncharted waters. He went from not running track as a 9th grader to an Olympian in 2.5 years. That doesn’t happen," said Hillsborough High School football coach Earl Garcia.

The fun, the strange, and the what-on-earth-is-this? Trending in Beijing is a wrap-up of top stories in Beijing as told by the trending hashtags, local press, and general power of the internet.
No shackles can retain the Kris Wu controversy
As most of us know by now, the once-celebrated pop star and actor Kris Wu was officially detained by Beijing police on suspicion of rape charges earlier this week. Nevertheless, a pair of shackles won't be enough to restrain what's shaping up to be the year's biggest scandal.

China's wayward herd of 14 wild elephants left home 16 months ago for a grand food tour across rich farmland in Yunnan province.
DAQIAO, China: First the entire village is shooed indoors, its power supply is cut, and finally bananas and other elephant treats are dumped on the opposite side of town to coax the uninvited guests to pass through.
So goes the routine welcome ceremony for China's wayward herd of 14 wild elephants, whose wandering ways have sparked an unusual operation aimed at steering them home across steep, winding, and often populated terrain.

Thompson-Herah seals 'double-double', Biles back with brave bronze - Newspaper

TOKYO: Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah made history with the first women’s Olympic sprint “double-double” on Tuesday, as superstar gymnast Simone Biles stared down the dreaded “twisties” to bravely win bronze on a day that saw world records smashed and organisers investigate Belarus’ treatment of an athlete now in diplomatic protection.

Wayde van Niekerk: How a PR stunt gone wrong paved a nightmarish road to Tokyo

Michael Steele/Getty Images
2016 was the Olympic swansong of Usain Bolt, and there was a passing of the torch, of sorts, from the Jamaican legend to 25-year-old Wayde Van Niekerk from Kraaifontein, who was poised to become the new face of world sprinting. Van Niekerk already had his sights set on becoming a world-beater over 200m, while he had also dipped below 10 seconds over 100m. He had the world at his feet and time on his side. Then a PR stunt went horribly wrong. Rio 2016 heroics and reputation aside, there was little reason to be optimistic about Van Niekerk's chances of defending his 400m Olympic title in Tokyo, Sport24 editor

Karsten Warholm's victory in the men's 400 metres hurdles final at the Tokyo Olympics, smashing his own world record by a huge margin into the bargain, will go down in history as one of the greatest races of all time.
Sydney McLaughlin of the USA repeated the world record feat in the women's event a day later.

Spotting Watches on Athletes' Wrists at the Tokyo Olympics 2021

Qatari high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim is a gold medallist at the Tokyo Olympics, sharing first place with Italian Gianmarco Tamberi. The two have come a long way from injuries and setbacks, and shared an emotional moment when the judge ruled that they can indeed tie for first place rather than have a jump-off. Barshim has long been an ambassador for Richard Mille and has the RM 67-02 named after him. The RM67-02 is extremely light thanks to its case made of Carbon TPT and Quartz TPT. The watch is fitted on what the brand calls a comfort band, an elastic strap that is entirely seamless and non-slip, a feat clearly on display as Barshim wears the watch during the entirety of the competition.
