The post was made as millions in Texas were without power following a winter storm. Tim Boyd later said he spoke as a citizen, not as the mayor.

The power grid operator said problems with natural gas systems were mainly to blame.

Colorado City, Texas Mayor Tim Boyd, who claims to have resigned prior to going on a social media rant Tuesday, told citizens the city and county owe them nothing and they should fend for themselves as they were freezing in extreme cold without power.

The local government website and recent city council agenda’s still lists the man as mayor
