People were bustin’ their moves again on a Wednesday evening at the Santa Barbara waterfront. Nite Moves, a weekly family-friendly endurance sports series and party that has been a spring-summer tradition since 1989, was back after the 2020 season was canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 300 participants of all ages gathered at Leadbetter Beach for the delayed opener, as Nites Moves normally starts in May. Top Chef, has joined the LM family as lead for culinary innovation. In celebration, Oceanic will host a five-course collaborative dinner with Tanabe and Oceanic executive chef Tim Lyons on Tuesday, May 25.   Tanabe will be serving dishes from his competitions on Top Chef, while Lyons will be showcasing his creativity with unique dishes created specifically for the event.   Each of the five courses will be served with a wine pairings, and guests will be seated in the second-floor dining room overlooking the ocean. Seating is limited, and tables must be reserved in advance at $125 per person...

And I've got to say, they delivered.  The four-course meals, with wine pairings, offered the kinds of dishes you might expect at these local LM Restaurants -- Bluewater Grill, Oceanic Restaurant at the Crystal Pier and Hops Supply Co., but leveled up. The company's new culinary innovation director Chef Katsuji Tanabe has a varied culinary background and a long list of television cooking appearances to his credit.
