DeSales University's Gerald "Jerry" Joyce will leave the Center Valley school to become the 27th president of Mount Saint Mary's University.

The Mount St. Mary’s University Board of Trustees today announces that Gerard “Jerry” J. Joyce, Ph.D., will be the 27th president in the university’s 215-year history. Joyce, a 32-year higher education veteran, currently serves as executive vice president of DeSales University. He will join the Mount effective July 1, 2024.

Friends of Catholic Education recently honored Mount St. Mary’s University President Timothy E. Trainor, Ph.D., with the Fr. John McElroy Award. Also receiving the award were Matthew and Marybeth Warner, graduates of the Mount St. Mary’s Classes of 1988 and 1989, respectively. The award is given annually to individuals whose actions and achievements have furthered Catholic education in Frederick County.

Mount St. Mary’s University ranked in the top 10 percent on the newly released New York Times College-Access Index, which analyzed the country’s 286 most selective colleges and universities based on the percentage of full-time freshmen receiving Pell Grants, the federal grants awarded to students from low and moderate-income families. The Mount, ranked 28th, placed No. 1 in Maryland.
