DURSLEY traders are opening up the town for family food, music and shopping for three Friday nights during the summer. Dursley After Hours is an initiative of four local women who want to help the town’s recovery from the pandemic. “We came up with the idea as a free, fun and friendly way for people to start their weekend spending time in our town,” said Danae Savvidou, chairman of the Town Improvements Committee. “We’ve had a great response from cafe and shop owners who are going to open until 9pm.” Dursley After Hours is being organised by town councillors Doina Cornell, Wendy Thomas, Danae Savvidou and Anja Rowston. ....
Proposal for 20mph zone in Burnham-On-Sea town centre set to be considered Proposals for a new 20mph zone in Burnham-On-Sea town centre and changes to traffic flows are among the plans set to be considered by town councillors next week. The Town Council is considering starting a public consultation exercise regarding potential changes in Burnham High Street and surrounding shopping streets. The proposals include introducing a 20mph zone in Burnham town centre to make pedestrians, cyclists and mobility scooter users feel safer; and making the High Street from College Street to Abingdon Street ‘access only’. Cllr Phil Harvey will present the proposals at the Town Council’s Town Improvements Committee meeting on Monday, July 12th. ....
Rusting fingerpost signs in Burnham-On-Sea to be refurbished in council upgrade The council’s Town Improvements Committee agreed the work at its latest meeting last week. A black and gold design will be used on the refurbished fingerposts, which will replace the current rusting ones, pictured here. A council spokesperson added: “There is £12,500 in the Burnham Evolution budget to cover the purchase and installation of seafront signage and town fingerposts, including repainting existing posts and the installation of an entirely new one. Refurb and replacement of the fingerposts in the town will be undertaken first.” We recently reported here that the Burnham Evolution project will also repaint bollards along Burnham’s Esplanade, and introduce new benches, gull-proof litter bins and picnic tables. ....
