Know. if you know the damage itself i saw was on the trailing edge of this particular device the flaperon which would mean maybe it was down at the time of impact which would be indicative of maybe the airplane turning just prior to the impact. it s very hard to say at this point in time. all right. thanks so much. always good to see you. good to see you. and we ll be right back. [laughs] irresistible moments deserve irresistibles treats. Reporting right there near toulouse france. i want to talk about what big questions remain with our experts. clive irving is with me. he is author of jumbo: the making of the 747, also a daily beast contributor. and also with us david gallo, director of special projects at the oceaniographic institute. so do they take this piece apart? they have to be incredibly careful, looking for serial numbers, what else? the first thing they ll look at is what the piece tells them about the impact. they ll get some clues as to why it came off the wing and they will get some clues about what forces struck it when it came from the plane. we already know something about that because if you look at the pictures of the piece, at the rear end, which is called the trailing edge it s broken it s sort of serrated at the end. it s uneven. so some parts of that broke off. ....

500 days like that with all the factors, you have to have theafrg happened in the last 500 days. i don t think it will help that much. while some experts will continue looking at that satellite data, others are already looking for clues from photos of the wing flap also known as a flaperon. tom foreman reports. analysts have been looking at the pictures of the flaperon and noting that the leading edge has less damage than the trailing edge. that could tell them something. here s how. when a plane like this is at cruising altitude going around 500 miles an hour or something like that, it is in a stowed position. it s flat like that. if for any reason this plane goes into a power dive or runs out of fuel, the speed can jump up and produce tremendous ....

The size reference is a pristine airline. that particular piece, the flaperon that we re referencing looked a little bit too big. at this point, boeing is giving positive answers that this is what it seems to be. as far as the flaperon is concerned, it definitely is looking that direction. when you look at it, a lot of what you see are those barnacles. we ll talk with some other experts about that. from the way that it is severed, what can we tell about potential impact or inflight removal may have happened here? yeah, everything is speculative at this point in time until the investigative team gets to that point and takes a look at it. but if we re talking, the parts that you re referring to with reference to the jagged edges, that s the trailing edge of this ....
