Delhi University to forge ties with remote universities
Officiating Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University (DU) PC Joshi said the university has launched a Vidya Vistar Scheme to develop cooperative academic bonding between its colleges and departments with other universities situated in remote areas of India, writes Jaideep Deo Bhanj for

The aim of the scheme is to maximise the contribution of the higher education institutions to nation-building through optimum utilisation of resources, he said. “The programme will not be one of mentorship by DU but will be a relationship of equality to conduct multidisciplinary research, with the expertise, infrastructure and facilities of the university [and] with field experience from the other universities for mutual benefit,” Joshi said. ....

Universities in Scotland will be hit by a multi-million pound loss as a result of the decision to delay students’ return to campus until the end of February. It is another financial blow for a sector already reeling from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, writes Nan Spowart for

Student leaders have also warned that students will also lose out financially by having to pay for private accommodation which they no longer need if they cannot return. Those in university halls are expected to claim accommodation rebates.
The university deficit in Scotland is already running at £176.1 million (US$240 million) but that does not take into account the accommodation rebates or costs that universities incurred running the testing programme before Christmas, which was only partially met by the UK government. Universities are now expecting a massive soar in claims for rent refunds after the first minis ....

Universities called upon to assist in vaccine roll-out
India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in a letter to the Ministry of Education’s Department of Higher Education, has asked for support from universities and higher education institutions to ensure the right information is disseminated to the public, reports
The Indian Express.
In the letter, Rajesh Bhushan, secretary for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, asked higher education institutions to support the vaccine “campaign roll-out with support from university network and online talk platforms as well as leverage points of large footfalls”.
The government is in the process of rolling out the vaccine for COVID-19. In the initial phase, the vaccine is being made available to frontline workers, healthcare workers, persons aged 50 years and above, and those below 50 with co-morbid conditions. ....
