Okay? still people don t understand why with all the snoopy sovereigns in the world that nobody picked up this airplane. yes, the thai radar picked it up a little bit but with india right there and thailand right there and diego garcia that does nothing but surveillance, do we have more information on why people don t have information on this plane or do we think that s not coming out? we do have information. once the transponder stopped submitting and you don t have the advantage of the more advanced radar and any tracking ability on this plane, you re down to basic, old fashioned primary radar, which is almost like what you see in world war ii movies, it s just a blip on ....

Positive thing, because we ve got, you know, the possibility i mean, the shot in the dark with that ship that is in port right now. michael kay? i think just again, we need to be best utilizing our assets to try and work out whether we re looking for the haystack or whether we re looking for the needle. there is effectively two independent searches going on. we re talking about, what rosa was talking about, what happens beyond the assumption of where the impact point was and how the currents might affect that. what i would like to go back and look at the assumptions where the impact point was. what i mean by that, how far it s traveled there are three to five assumptions that we re using. we re using speed, altitude, we re using endurance, how much fuel did it have. what was the track after the last transponder ping to when it actually turned south. and all those assumption also inform where the impact point was, which we don t know, and ....

the captain boosts the massive engines. the plane roars into the sky. its altimeter tracking its climb through 5,000 feet, then 10,000 feet. now airborne, air traffic controllers pick up the flight. they re going to see you on their radar because you ve got a squawk code in your transponder which basically turns your simple radar return into something that has a lot of information on it. it includes the flight number and the speed and the altitude. coming up to 17,000 feet. this is malaysia here, and this is vietnam here. there s cambodia on the left side. as the plane reaches its cruising altitude of 35,000 feet, the pilots can relax a little. so can the passengers like paul weeks and philip wood. it s 1:19 in the morning. and a voice from the cockpit addresses air traffic control ....

Hurry. at 1:21 a.m., the plane s transponder goes silent. when you turn that off, it s like lights are out. so there s no more voice communication. and no signal to air traffic control with the plane s location, speed, and altitude. it could have been physically turned off. there could have been a circuit breaker pulled or there could have been some sort of catastrophic failure on the plane which caused an electrical disruption. then the 777 makes an unexpected left turn heading west and way off course. what we see is a quick turn almost 180-degree turn back toward land. according to a source close to the investigation, military radar then shows the plane dropping and flying as low as 12,000 feet. ....
