Cumberland County commissioners on Thursday approved a capital project request for $50,000 to enhance security at the county office building at 310 Allen Road.
Construction could be completed by early summer on a forensics lab addition that would enable Cumberland County to establish a firearms testing unit.
The current cost estimate from Noelker and Hull is $478,789, according to Planning Director Kirk Stoner said.
The current caseload of 28 inmates could double or possibly triple within the next year as the prison implements its Medication Assisted Treatment program.
The project will provide additional cameras, motion sensor devices, security film on exterior windows and bullet resistant glass at the transaction windows.
