Bill to increase Philadelphia's tree canopy would impose fees on developers who cut down trees without replacing them

City Councilmember Katherine Gilmore Richardson introduced a bill on Thursday that would increase Philadelphia's tree canopy in an effort to help the city reach its goal of 30% tree cover by 2030. The bill would create the Philly Tree Fund, built using fees imposed on developers who cut down trees without replacing them, and would add buffers near industrial areas.
