Senior defender Oskar Ågren is traveling to St. Louis, Mo. for the MAC Hermann Trophy Banquet, where he will be honored as a finalist for the most prestigious individual award in college soccer, and the 2021 recipient will be announced. Most recently, Robbie Robinson took home the trophy in 2019 following a spectacular season. He was drafted first overall in the MLS SuperDraft shortly after earning the MAC Hermann Trophy. He joined Wojtek Krakowiak (‘98) and Bruce Murray (‘87) as Tigers that have won the award. Ågren differs from those three in that he is the lone defender of the group. He starred at center back for the Tigers in their National Championship-winning season, leading them to a .802 goals against average and 10 team clean sheets. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The good news continues to come in for the Seminoles after winning a national title on Monday, Jaelin Howell has been named a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist as announced by the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club on Wednesday afternoon. Howell marks the fifth MAC Hermann Trophy finalists in school history, joining Mami Yamaguchi, Dagny Brynjarsdottir, Malia Berkey and herself from last season. Yamaguchi took home the award in 2007 and Howell became the second Seminole to win the MAC Hermann Award a season ago. Howell, the reigning MAC Hermann Trophy winner, was named a First Team All-American after playing in all 25 games this season, starting in 23 of them at the holding midfielder position. Edmonton forward Gloire Amanda won the MAC Hermann Trophy on Thursday as the top male NCAA soccer player.
The 22-year-old Oregon State junior led the NCAA Division 1 in both goals (15) and total points (37). He was named to the All-Pac-12 and All-Far West Region first team as well as the United Soccer Coaches All-America first team and Top Drawer Soccer Best XI first team.
His 37 points set the Oregon State single-season record.
