CHILOQUIN, Ore. Fire managers began two separate prescribed burns between Klamath and Lake counties on Tuesday, according to the South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership (SCOFMP).
Test firing at the North 2 prescribed burn near Chiloquin began shortly after noon and went well, SCOFMP said. The project is intended to burn up to 4,000 acres over the course of three to five days, using helicopter to ignite fuels from the air when conditions permit. ....

CHILOQUIN, Ore. The U.S. Forest Service and partner agencies are preparing for several large prescribed burns in the Fremont-Winema National Forest covering almost 5,000 acres. The burns may begin over the week of May 3, forestry officials said.
Two areas have been identified as sites of the burns. The LoMi prescribed burn is set for 800 acres near Klamath Marsh, off the Silver Lake Highway. The North 2 prescribed burn, estimated at roughly 4,200 acres, is located seven miles northeast of Chiloquin. Officials said that it is located near the burn scar of the Two Four Two Fire from September. ....

CHILOQUIN, Ore. Six months after Chiloquin Elementary School became a hub for support during the Two Four Two Fire, Oregon s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley recognized staff with the gift of a flag that flew over the Capitol in Washington, D.C.
The Two Four Two Fire started on September 7 near Collier State Park, growing during the unprecedented Labor Day winds to eventually cover more than 12,500 acres. More than a thousand structures were threatened, with 70 damaged and 35 destroyed. ....

(Oregon Coast) – Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is getting back to normal at an ever-quickening rate, and is now looking hopefully towards a more “normal” season at campgrounds on the Oregon coast and elsewhere. Staff rehiring is taking place after many positions were eliminated, and even with a massive revenue shortfall the agency has opened up most state parks and campgrounds, with a few more to go.

However, some small camping fee increases are taking place at several state parks, though not all. ....
