Middletown teens who rescued kids from icy pond will split $7,500
A group of five teenagers from Middletown has been honored with cash for their heroic efforts, saving two young children from an icy pond while sledding this past winter.
Kieran Foley, Joseph Dietrich, Drew Scalice, Ryan Day and Tyler Armagan, dubbed “The Rescuers,” have been given $7,500 to split as recipients of a 2021 Russ Berrie Making a Difference Award.
The freshmen at Middletown High School North formed a human chain to pull two siblings, ages 4 and 8, to safety after the December sledding mishap at the Beacon Hill Country Club in Atlantic Highlands. ....

MIDDLETOWN, NJ Remember these young men? The five Middletown teen boys who jumped into a frozen pond this past December and saved two little kids in a sledding accident will be honored with a $7,500 prize this May.
The money is given out by the Russell Berrie Foundation, a Mahwah-based non-profit that gives out money annually to people across New Jersey.
Kieran Foley, Joseph Dietrich, Drew Scalice, Ryan Day, and Tyler Armagan all freshmen at Middletown High School North will be awarded the money in virtual award ceremony on May 7. ....

A family in New Jersey is thankful for five young men who saved their two children from a frozen pond on December 17.
“Eight-year-old Olivia Heid and her four-year-old brother, RJ were sledding on Thursday at a country club in Middletown, when their sled flew over a ridge and into an icy pond,” ABC 6 reported.
Just moments before, dad Richard Heid said he watched in horror as their sled quickly gained momentum.
“You could see in their faces that they knew something bad was about to happen,” their mother, Stephanie Irlbeck, recalled. ....

Five teenage boys jumped into action after watching two young children plunge into a pond while sledding, forming a human chain to save them.
News 12 New Jersey reports the incident occurred at the Beacon Hill Country Club located in Atlantic Highlands. The children s parents had taken them to the country club to have their first sledding adventure after seven inches of snow fell over the northern part of Monmouth County last week.
