Forget the Apollo, Mark Watson racks up a very unusual gig
He has a reputation for performing comedy in some unusual places, but Mark Watson last night found himself doing a gig in one of the strangest situations yet: queuing for his Covid jab.
The stand-up unexpectedly found himself performing via Zoom from outside a vaccination centre in Walthamstow, north-east London, after spending longer than he expected in line.
He was closing the bill of the virtual gig run by Always Be Comedy, but when he received notice that his local site was offering inoculations to all-comers he decided to chance it.

Still no reopening date for Scottish venues : News 2021 : Chortle : The UK Comedy Guide

Nicola Sturgeon insists it's 'too early' for specifics, sustaining doubt over the Edinburgh Fringe
Nicola Sturgeon has declined to set a date for the full return of live entertainment in Scotland.
The First Minister offered no hint as when the uncertainty that has crippled the live comedy industry and threatens this year’s Edinburgh Fringe might end.
She said it is too soon to set a target for when normality might resume explaining: ‘It is not possible to provide specific dates or details.’
Her comments came as she announced yesterday that the toughest stay-at-home lockdown orders will be relaxed north of the border on April 2.

Jo Brand: How I escaped a drink-drive rap : Punching Up 2021 : Chortle : The UK Comedy Guide

Confession on Mel Giedroyc's Unforgivable
Jo Brand has revealed that she was once caught drink-driving… but the police let her off because she was a nurse.
The comic said she went for a boozy session with some pals after a tough day at work.
But on the way home she drove through red traffic lights, which attracted the attention of a squad car.
‘Because I was quite drunk – sorry about this, don’t drink and drive – I drove to [the flats] where I lived and for a laugh to entertain my friends, I drove on to the ornamental gardens and went round and round the fountain going "woo hoo".’

'Humiliation and ridicule aside, we had a great old time.' : Interviews 2021 : Chortle : The UK Comedy Guide

Mike Wozniak on his Taskmaster experience
You’ve got a long history with Taskmaster, haven’t you?
I did the prototype, the Edinburgh Fringe version. It was a lot of fun and we didn’t know what we were doing. It was an era when most of us were stand-ups or doing sketch shows, scrounging around trying to get whatever live work we could and Edinburgh was a standard part of the calendar.
Alex Horne just said to us, ‘Since you’re going to Edinburgh anyway, I’m going to send you something once a month to do’ and then we started getting all these peculiar tasks to do at the Fringe.
