Wintersville tries to keep up some holiday traditions amid coronavirus pandemic | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff writer
WINTERSVILLE — While the village’s Christmas parade and a children’s Christmas party hosted by the Wintersville Fire Department are among many local Christmas events being curtailed by the pandemic, village officials and volunteers are carrying on a few other holiday traditions.
On Thursday, Mayor Bob Gale announced the village will hold its annual Christmas decorating contest, with the number of winners raised from seven to 10.
Council members have been invited to survey the village’s homes and businesses for potential winners Dec. 18-20 and submit their nominations by Dec. 21.
Each winner will receive a $50 gift card.
Council also has agreed to give each of the village’s 10 employees a $50 gift card at Gale’s request. He said in the past they have received a $25 gift card and a special lunch but the latter was canceled to maintain social distancing so he suggested raising the amount for the gift cards.
