Father of British WWI flying ace praised 'brave' brother of the Red Baron who killed him
Sir Albert Ball wrote note to the mother of pilot Lothar von Richthofen He was the younger brother of the famous 'Red Baron' Manfred von Richthofen Lothar shot down and killed Mr Ball's son, Captain Albert Ball, in May 1917 Sir Albert said in note that he was sending Mrs von Richthofen a photo of his son He added that they should both be proud to know both sons 'did their best' Lothar survived the war but was killed in a flying accident in 1922
