The province has had years to achieve its goals and hasn't, say advocates and people in the disability community. Still, they say the year from the deadline shouldn't be wasted, and needs to be spent trying to close the gap on accessibility.
Advocates warn successive governments haven't provided enough support for the cities, let alone the province, to fully comply with Ontario's accessibility legislation.
Advocates and people with disabilities say the slow pace of governments working toward the AODA has hindered the bill from reaching its full potential, leaving roughly 2.9 million Ontarians 15 years or older who have a disability wanting.
