The Crusaders played their best game of the year and used an 18-0 run to start the 4 th quarter to pick up their 5 th win of the season. The run to start the 4 th quarter answered a spurt at the end of the 3 rd that had Grand View Christian up by 5. The Thunder scored the final 6 points of the 3 rd quarter on back to back 3’s to rally after Coon Rapids Bayard led by 6 at half. Brynn Bass was huge in the 1 st half with 3-3’s and 14 points. She helped spark the 4 th quarter rally after Miranda Garcia blocked a 3 point shot and Alaya Betts rebounded and kicked it ahead to Bass who spun between a pair of defenders for the layup. Bass then blocked a 3 point attempt and Miranda Garcia pulled down the rebound which led to a 3 from Mia Leighty who hit back to back 3’s. Garcia was huge on defense, taking a pair of charges.
Carroll hung tough for the 1 st half but for the second time this season Ballard was able to pull away in the 2 nd half. Kennedy Lein helped spark the Tigers early as Carroll got up 5-2 and 6-4. Ballard grabbed their first lead at 8-6 and didn’t trail again but Carroll only trailed 14-11 after the 1 st quarter. Carroll pulled within 17-13 early in the 2 nd quarter and the lead remained around 6 points until Ballard scored just before half to take a 21-13 lead into the locker room. The Tigers struggled coming out in the 3 rd quarter and Ballard took advantage outscoring them 22-9 in the quarter to lead by 21 heading to the 4
rd win of the season and 2 nd in a row. Catherine Mayhall exploded for 31 points hitting 5 three points and was deadly with runners in the lane. Kyndal Hilgenberg came up big with 13 points as the Knights played without second leading scorer Brooklyn Gifford.
Red Oak built an early 8-2 and 12-6 lead before Catherine Mayhall hit back to back 3’s to close out the 1 st quarter tying the game at 12. The Knights grabbed their first lead early in the 2 nd quarter only to see Red Oak answer and go up 16-14. The Tigers extended the lead to 26-19 before Mayhall and Kyndal Hilgenberg put them up for good. Mayhall drained a 3 to put them up 31-29 and them Hilgenberg knocked down a wing 3 to make it 34-29 and Kuemper would never trail again. Chloe DeVries wasn’t going to let Red Oak go down easy as she hit a pair of 3’s and the Tigers tied the game at 37 at the end of the 3
Carroll received a good defensive effort on the road and used a pair of 3’s in the 2 nd quarter to improve to 6-5 overall and 4-5 in the Raccoon River Conference. The Tigers have won 3 straight to start the 2 nd half of the season. Gabi Hammer and Laura Sweeney knocked down some big 3’s in the 2 nd quarter as Carroll rallied from down 3 at the end of the 1 st quarter to take the lead for good at 23-20 at half. Ella Collison led the way in the win with 11 points. Carroll will be Glibert on KIKD 106.7 on Friday. Carroll Stats
The Carroll Tigers fought all night against the Raccoon River Conference’s number one team Ballard Bombers, but fell just short of knocking them off. The first quarter would be all Carroll as they would lead for most of the quarter and end with the 9-8 lead. The returning Ella Collison would lead the team with seven points in that quarter. Collison sustained a knee injury after Tuesday’s contest against Winterset, but was feeling great and was scoring great against the Bombers. Heading into the second quarter against the undefeated Bombers, the Tigers would keep the game close to them going into halftime trailing 19-17. Collison would lead all scorers with 10 first half points. Also scoring for the Tigers that half was Gabi Hammer with five points and Camryn Schable with two points.
Glidden Ralston looked sharp in garnering their 2 nd win of the season. The Wildcats for a second straight game started quickly this time getting out 8-0 behind 3’s from Tiela Janssen and Paige Klocke. Much like the game Tuesday against CAM Anita the Wildcats then gave up a run to fall behind. They trailed 10-8 late in the 1 st quarter but unlike Tuesday the Wildcats had an answer tonight. They went back ahead 11-10 at the end of the 1 st quarter and after falling behind 15-14 got three straight 3’s to go up for good at 23-15. Tiela Janssen hit a couple of those 3’s as the Wildcats extended the lead to 29-16 and led at the half 29-18.
