Police say the 30-mile chase initiated by Pamela Cabrera on March 31, 2022 led to death of Vanity Cabrera, 5.
Lawyers for Pamela Cabrera entered a guilty plea to the charges of aggravated manslaughter of her child and fleeing from police in 2022. The Cabrera family also filed a lawsuit alleging negligence of multiple agencies involved.
Pamela Cabrera has been charged by the state attorney's office in Jacksonville with aggravated manslaughter for the death of her 5-year-old daughter, Vanity, following a high-speed car chase.
Police say the woman kidnapped her 5-year-old daughter at knifepoint, then led officers on a high-speed chase before she crashed her SUV into a retention pond off the highway. Investigators said she managed to get herself out of the vehicle, but made "no attempt" to rescue the little girl, who drowned in the water. She's now been charged in her daughter's death.
