Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid ran away in the voting to win his second Hart Trophy as NHL MVP on Tuesday, much like he blew away the competition while leading the league in points.
McDavid became just the second unanimous Hart selection – joining Wayne Gretzky in 1982 – in receiving all 100 first-place votes from members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.
The NHL presented its awards remotely for a second consecutive season because of the coronavirus pandemic. In previous years, the awards ceremony was held in Las Vegas with an audience and players present.

Connor McDavid's award-winning season came with one regret. In earning his second career MVP honor Tuesday, the Edmonton Oilers captain wished his team was still playing.
"We had a special group this year, and obviously we didn't do what we wanted to do," McDavid said, referring to the Oilers being swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Winnipeg Jets.
"But it was still so fun to be a part of, and get the fans of Edmonton excited again for what's to come," he added. "We had so many guys take the next step, and I'm just part of that. If we're all continuing to do that, we're going to go and do some special things in this league."

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Joel Eriksson Ek’s goal at 3:20 of overtime lifted the Minnesota Wild past the Vegas Golden Knights 1-0 in Game 1 of their first-round series on Sunday.
Wild goaltender Cam Talbot stopped all 42 shots he faced.
Vegas’ Marc-Andre Fleury, the first goalie in NHL history to play in 15 consecutive postseasons, made 29 saves.
After Vegas defenseman Alex Pietrangelo failed to clear the puck, Eriksson Ek was in the slot to send a shot that went off the skate of Golden Knights defender Alec Martinez and past Fleury.
