Now, what we know is that this working group will be heavily reliant on the data that particularly countries like the united states and the united kingdom can offer. we know that they relied on the united kingdom s inmarsat satellite data, the doppler effect that looked at the frequency and velocity of the aircraft to work out that it did likely end its journey in the southern indian ocean. which is why they decided to go and announce that they believe all hope was lost in finding mh-370 and those on board alive. wolf? saima, you know that malaysian authorities, malaysia airlines, malaysian government, the prime minister, they ve come under enormous fire of criticism for saying that the plane went down in the indian ocean, no hope left for the passengers. based solely on new and revised satellite data, mathematical calculations from inmarsat. and maybe other sources. but they have no hard evidence, ....

With the coast guard, you ve been in the thick of this thing many times, maybe not on this scale, but i can understand these relatives, i can understand the ghastly scenes we re seeing in beijing and kuala lumpur who have been told so many different versions of what may have happened and now they just don t believe anything they re being told? well, i think part of the problem here is the fact that they weren t told any technical information from the beginning. and actually it s a fairly simple explanation and it took very complex calculations to do it, it s a very simple explanation. it s like standing in the train station, watching the train come toward you. you re going to hear a higher pitched sound as the train bears away from you, lower pitched sound even though the train itself is the same velocity, that s what the folks who figures this out in britain used to figure out approximately ....

1,000 miles an hour. you are talking a lot of energy with aircraft that weigh thousands of pounds. so when they do collide at that high velocity, there is typically total destruction of the aircraft. by the time radio contact is made at 4:53 p.m., the connection is so bad, the legacy pilots and controller can t understand each other. the planes are closing in. everybody was sort of dozing or working. i hear and feel a bang! the loudest noise i ve ever heard. i was in vietnam and i ve heard bombs and just, bang! and every atom in my body, i felt, kind of implode. i ve flown as a passenger a lot. you go through all kinds of weather and all kinds of turbulence, and i ve never felt an impact like this before. because of the angle at which the planes collide, the 737, though much larger, takes a far worse hit than the legacy. ....

Attitude. it would be in a much different attitude. so i m a little skeptical it would have been able to continue to float for that long. and david gallo, it looks calm out there now and what we ve heard from folks the last 24 hours it was calm. but as we saw a short time ago in that video taken last year, around this area, it s notorious for having big waves, strong winds, tough currents. does that just complicate the situation in terms of trying to triangulate how far debris could have potentially moved from any impact site? yeah, of course. i mean, it s not as though the currents have the same velocity or the same direction or the winds have the same velocity and same direction. it s all variable. these are swirling winds, might be eddies in the currents. it s a real complicated issue. welcome to the world of oceanography. as captain marks said, this is the world that we live in. but to find something, to backtrack something over so many days, it s going to be really ....
