In a message, he congratulated OPAV for publishing the manual that is “designed to help the local implementers of our COVID-19 response in the Visayas, (and) will truly standardize our procedures in combatting this disease.” EOC was established in Cebu when the surge of cases occurred in 2020. In June 2020, Cebu was dubbed as the epicenter for Covid-19 since it had the greatest number of cases in the entire country at the time. ....

A screenshot of an infographic said to be released by the Philippine Genome Center to media bears a COVID-19 variant named as Central Visayas Variant, which was previously known as Philippine Variant. Published April 5, 2021, 4:54 PM CEBU CITY – Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs) and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) can get free swab testing at the international arrival area of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA). Spearheaded by the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH Region 7), the project was officially launched last April 1 but the giving of free swab testing and RT-PCR testing to ROFs and returning residents at MCIA started last March 31. “This move to test upon arrival and for free unburdens the OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. It also (keeps them) from spending so much on their hotel stays,” said Loreche.
