Convict in Floyd murder case Chauvin asks for new trial--China Economic Net

Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering black man George Floyd, filed a request Tuesday asking for a new trial.   The motion, filed by Chauvin's attorney Eric Nelson, cites factors including "the interests of justice; abuse of discretion that deprived the Defendant of a fair trial; prosecutorial and jury misconduct; errors of law at trial; and a verdict that is contrary to law."   Chauvin was convicted on April 20 of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd's death.   Nelson wrote in the filing that ...

Universal beams that were not tied to the truck carrying them were the cause of a deadly pileup of six vehicles Monday night in east China's Zhejiang Province, the Traffic Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security said Tuesday.   The pileup involving three cars and three trucks occurred around 9:11 p.m. Monday on an expressway, killing six people and injuring three.   Investigation showed that a truck was carrying 15 universal beams, each 12.1 meters long and weighing 2.2 tonnes, when it rear-ended a car, causing the pileup. Chinese mainland reports 7 new COVID-19 cases, all imported--China Economic Net

The Chinese mainland on Tuesday reported seven new COVID-19 cases, all of which were imported, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Wednesday.   Of the cases, two were reported in Sichuan, and one each in Tianjin, Inner Mongolia, Shandong, Guangdong and Guangxi.   Six new suspected cases arriving from outside the mainland were reported in Shanghai, but no new deaths related to COVID-19 were reported Tuesday, the commission said.  (Editor:Wang Su)
