All participants at US President Joe Bidenâs summit, except Australia, were able to commit to specific, quantifiable, targets implying that the âtechnologyâ issue was no barrier to them, and shouldnât be a barrier to Australia as claimed by Scott Morrison (âPM wavers on targets as Biden pledges to halve US emissionsâ, April 23).
Setting no targets, the PM preferred to waffle on disingenuously, spruiking a snake oil yarn about the world being reassured, and future generations thanking Australia for making âbankableâ non-specific âcommitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissionsâ. On present performance his âbankable reassuranceâ is nothing but a transparent overdraft of hot air that future generations, rather than giving thanks, will be spending lifetimes repaying.
