The larger-than-life saga of Italy’s Agnelli family, the billionaires behind automaker Fiat, is set to be realistically reconstructed in a high-end international TV series that will recount the dynastic tale from a female point of view.
The still-untitled Agnelli skein was announced Saturday by director and producer Ginevra Elkann (pictured, center) who is the granddaughter of late Fiat magnate Gianni Agnelli. Gianni Agnelli is being remembered in Italy this weekend on the centennial of his birth. Elkann made the announcement on Saturday speaking on Mediaset talk show “Verissimo.”

Dylan Farrow Gets Her Say in 'Allen v. Farrow': TV Review

Dylan Farrow Gets Her Say in 'Allen v. Farrow': TV Review

The charges made against Woody Allen by Dylan Farrow, his daughter, and Mia Farrow, her mother, have resonated throughout American culture for decades. But it took a while for them to really be heard.
That — the story of their finally being metabolized — makes for the narrative arc of “Allen v. Farrow,” a new documentary series on HBO premiering Feb. 21. Dylan Farrow’s 1992 allegation of childhood sexual assault, which she put into writing on journalist Nicholas Kristof’s blog in 2014, was treated as both serious and ancillary to the career of one of the leading American directors of his time. Previously, this accusation had been widely reported (never having resulted in a conviction for Allen) and existed as a free-floating association that alternately stuck or didn’t to Allen’s name. For many, they were part of the penumbra of oddity, along with his having married Mia Farrow’s daughter Soon-Yi Previn, that it was easier not to think about when buying a ticket to “Midnight in Paris.”

With HBO Max’s “Generation” joining HBO’s “We Are Who We Are” and “Euphoria” on the WarnerMedia-owned streaming service, the overall HBO brand is looking a lot more youth-focused these days.
Speaking virtually from the all-remote Television Critics Assn. winter press tour, head of HBO and HBO Max programming Casey Bloys told
Variety that that wasn’t part of some “grand plan” to attract younger viewers.
More from Variety
“What was interesting is ‘Euphoria’ was done at HBO before [HBO] Max, before I took over both,” he said. “It was a kind of realization that even at HBO… you have to kind of keep reinventing what an HBO show could do. And so this one was probably the youngest star we’ve ever had for an HBO show. But essentially it is a show about the struggle with addiction that happened to be set in high school, but it’s a really weighty and serious topic.”

Variety has confirmed.
The shows were ordered as part of a two-year overall deal that encompassed all forms of television except for animation. The decision comes as Judge has been overseeing the reimagining of “Beavis and Butt-Head” for Comedy Central as part of an animation deal with the ViacomCBS network. The cancelation also arrives as HBO programming president Casey Bloys is refocusing on reviewing programming for both HBO and HBOMax.
More from Variety
The first project, formerly a co-production between HBO and Lionsgate, is titled “Qualityland.” It is based on the novel of the same name by Marc Uwe-King and is about “the story of humanity’s struggle against the tyranny of convenience. But funny,” the official description for the series states. Judge and Josh Lieb were slated to serve as writers and executive producers, with Michael Rotenberg of 3 Arts Entertainment also executive producing.
