gold prices: Gold extends record rally on safe-haven appeal, weaker dollar

Spot gold edged 0.2% higher to $2,283.47 per ounce, as of 0055 GMT, after hitting an all-time high of $2,288.09 earlier in the session.
The dollar index slipped 0.2% against its rivals and was on track for a second weekly drop, making gold less expensive for other currency holders.
Spot gold was up 0.3% at $1,983.81 per ounce, as of 0041 GMT. U.S. gold futures also gained 0.3% to $1,985.70.
Oil benchmark Brent futures breached $80 a barrel for the first time since May on Wednesday.
