Well Whitehaven project to help shape communities Jaq Courtney and Emma Williamson Students from Mirehouse and Corkickle have joined forces to shape the future of activities and services in their communities. Supported by the Well Whitehaven Project, 30 pupils from Whitehaven Academy set out their aspirations for services, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jaq Cardy, member of the Well Whitehaven panel, said: “The young people who attended the sessions were really engaging and came up with many ideas. “A common theme across the groups was a big community event to bring everyone together. “The sessions also highlighted how much young people care about their community. ....
With one difficult year behind us and troubles still lying ahead, one group is looking to instil a positive attitude in pupils and parents, and get the whole county smiling for 2021. The Art of Brilliance, which offers specialised training programmes based on the science of positive psychology, is set to launch the Brilliant Schools initiative throughout six west Cumbrian schools. Thanks to funding from members of the DDP Framework and Well Whitehaven, the scheme will offer a variety of wellbeing workshops for youngsters, parents and school staff, encouraging a happy outlook and a positive learning experience. Dr Andy Cope, founder of The Art of Brilliance, said: “There’s currently a world shortage of happiness, so we’re seeking to redress the balance by instilling positivity, resilience, self-esteem and wellbeing into the school curriculum. ....
