Monkeypox, which spreads through close contact and was first found in monkeys, has been detected in around 30 countries where it is not endemic, with over 780 confirmed cases.
A World Health Organization senior official said on Friday that the priority needs to be containing monkeypox in non-endemic countries, saying that this can be achieved through quick action.
WHO said Monkeypox cases have so far been detected in more than 20 non-endemic countries, adding that the agency expected the numbers to go up.
Monkeypox cases have been reported in 20 countries, with infections now confirmed in the US, the UK, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, and Italy among others.
