John McGee: Slightly bitter? Stout wars claims latest scalp in Island's Edge
As a young business journalist back in 1989, I attended the London press launch of Murphy’s Irish Stout in the UK. Having acquired the brand as part of its 1983 buy-out of Lady’s Well Brewery in Cork, the Dutch brewing giant Heineken was keen to expand into the UK by introducing Brits to a stout that has been favoured by Leesiders since 1889.
