EDWARDSVILLE – Distant law firms clash in Madison County circuit court over a $30 million fee from litigation against seed maker Syngenta.
Crumley Roberts of North Carolina and Burke Harvey of Alabama each claimed $10 million on Feb. 26, in a complaint against Heninger Garrison of Alabama.
The three firms jointly represented some of many farmers who settled corn contamination claims against Syngenta for $1.5 billion.

The courts have been closed to all but essential hearings, with much of the court’s business being conducted remotely for the past year.
Last Monday the first in-person hearings were held, including Traffic Court, one of the biggest dockets, and the first grand jury in about a year.
“We moved a lot of files,” Mudge said. “We’re off to a good start so far. We’re slowly, cautiously resuming services here.” ....

Gibbons at a press conference announcing details of the Randy Gori murder case
EDWARDSVILLE – Former Madison County state’s attorney Tom Gibbons formed a regional police squad to investigate Republicans about a rumor, according to public record of the investigation.
No evidence for the rumor ever turned up.
The team searched for political activity inside the courthouse and found it only on the Democratic side of the fence.
Top Democrats wound up explaining why party messages showed up in their computer mailboxes.
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, who replaced Gibbons as prosecutor by court order, brought no charges against any Republicans.  ....
