Published in supplements between 1886 and 1889, the
Atlas set out to document through illustrations, maps and text a settler-colonial view of Australia s history, landscape and ways of life, and did so with the aid of over 800 remarkable steel- and wood-engraved illustrations. It was also a catalyst for the art movement that followed, now known as Australian impressionism.

Exquisitely designed by John J. Raskob for social gatherings and a bespoke book collection, the Archmere Library now houses meetings and literary masterpieces.
While researching rare book dealers, writer Bill Meehan came across a title once owned by financier John J. Raskob. The book’s primary feature was its unusual binding. Learning that Raskob’s records are held at the Hagley Museum and Library, the author spent months examining the 64-box collection organized by archivist Richard James.
