Covid-19: Testing in Brixton and Stockwell after cases rise

Some cases of the Covid variant first identified in India have also been found in the borough.  The council is urging people living, working or studying in the Brixton and Stockwell areas to have a Covid-19 PCR test.   Testing sites are open from May 27 for 10 days in Windrush Square, Brixton and from May 28 at Stockwell Memorial Gardens. Adjaye Associates has completed a memorial to the woman whose shooting by the Metropolitan Police in 1985 triggered the Brixton riots. Cherry Groce was paralysed from the waist down in the attack which happened in front of her children at their home. She died as a result of her injuries in 2011. The Cherry Groce Memorial Pavilion in Brixton’s Windrush Square consists of a single column supporting a triangular roof planted with flowers.
