SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — A division of Ho-Chunk Inc. announced last week it has acquired a set of historic structures on the 1000 block of Sioux City’s Historic Fourth Street from the Aalfs family.
Ho-Chunk Capital’s purchases include the landmark building that housed Aalfs Manufacturing’s corporate offices for much of the 20th century. Built in 1890, the five-story brick-and-stone structure at 1005 Fourth St. has also been known as the Boston Block.
The other buildings acquired house a mix of tenants that include bars, offices, shops and restaurants. Collectively, the structures have 78,527 square feet of floor space, according to a Ho-Chunk press release.

Ellison files lawsuit against Winnebago events center
By Jake Rinehart | December 30, 2020 at 4:43 PM CST - Updated December 30 at 6:47 PM
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KEYC) — Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced Wednesday that his office has filed a lawsuit against an events center in southern Minnesota.
Ellison’s office said the lawsuit against Carlson Event Center in Winnebago was filed after learning that the establishment had advertised that it would hold a “New Year’s Eve Bash” Friday night.
The event would violate Gov. Tim Walz’s Executive Order 20-99, which prohibits venues hosting indoor events and entertainment, such as concert halls and performance venues, from being open to the public until 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 10.
