The Don't Tread On Me flag, seen here flying below a U.S. flag, shows a coiled rattlesnake on the grass on a yellow background, with the words "Don't Tread On Me" below the snake. The flag was designed by Revolutionary War general Christopher Gadsden in 1775 and was used in that war. The flag has been adopted by the Tea Party movement and other libertarian groups.
In 2016, city of Delafield Ald. Jackie Valde requested removal of the Gadsden flag from the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Riverwalk. The proposal was voted down by city officials.
