CLEVELAND Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson joined two fellow Ohio mayors and Amtrak leaders on Tuesday to discuss the need for passenger rail service from Cleveland to Cincinnati via Columbus and Dayton.
Jackson was joined by Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, Crestline Mayor Linda Horning-Pitt, and Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission Executive Director William Murdock for the virtual meeting along with Amtrak CEO Bill Flynn and Amtrak President Stephen Gardner.

It was announced last month that Amtrak is looking to expand its passenger rail services in Ohio and has proposed plans to connect the state s major cities.According to All Aboard Ohio, Amtrak representatives have been meeting with Ohio city leaders to discuss the expansion. A blueprint of the routes its envisioning was released in January. (Undated) – Amtrak has proposed a plan that would connect some of the biggest cities in the Midwest.
Amtrak is requesting $300 million per year starting in federal fiscal year 2021 from Congress to develop high-potential corridors (routes under 750 miles) that would connect Ohio cities to other surrounding cities such as Indianapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh and New York.
The new federal passenger rail program is dependent on support from Congress and the new Biden administration.
The five new routes Amtrak is hoping to develop are:
Cleveland-Columbus-Dayton-Cincinnati Corridor: three daily round trips with intermediate station stops;
