Worcester's NAACP swears in new president, elected officers | Worcester Business Journal


Among those were new President Fred Taylor, the organization’s previous first vice president.
“Our unity is so important in this time when a light has been shined on the injustices Black people face in this country,” Taylor said in a statement. “There is finally some recognition of the long-standing injustices in policing, in the judicial system, in the education system, in political representation, and in workforce representation for hiring and decision-making.”
Taylor pledged to continue the group s efforts to address systemic racism in the Worcester Police Department, remove police from schools, as well as “to bring political representatives to our city that reflect the faces of our sons and daughters.” ....

New Worcester Branch NAACP president Fred Taylor promises commitment to addressing systemic racism in Worcester

The Worcester Branch NAACP has announced Fred Taylor as the organization’s new president.
In a statement, Taylor promised his commitment to the Branch’s continued efforts to address systemic racism in the Worcester Police Department, to remove police officers from the Worcester Public Schools and increase Black political representative in the city.
“I understand this will not be easy,” Taylor wrote in his incoming statement. “I am humbled by the support expressed by many people in the community. Our unity is so important in this time when a light has been shined on the injustices Black people face in this country.” ....

Worcester NAACP responds to US Capitol siege, latest in Jacob Blake case


WORCESTER  This week, the Worcester Chapter of the NAACP reacted to no charges being filed against the officer who shot Jacob S. Blake and the siege on the U.S. Capitol, as well as news closer to home.
In a press release, the Worcester chapter addressed Blake, a 29-year-old Black man, who was shot and seriously injured by police officer Rusten Sheskey on Aug. 23 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Sheskey shot at Blake’s back seven times when Blake opened the driver’s door to his SUV and leaned in. Three of Blake’s sons were in the backseat at the time. It was announced this week that Sheskey would not face any criminal charges. ....
