February 28, 2021 - 9:22 AM Baldy Mountain Resort in Oliver has re-opened today, Feb. 28, following a one-day closure triggered by the death of one of its staff. On Feb. 26, at 4:43 p.m., Oliver RCMP received a report of a workplace incident up at the ski hill. Early findings indicated that an employee of the resort sustained serious injuries after becoming stuck beneath a Snowcat groomer. Travel Guidance Update Governor Phil Scott on Friday announced a welcomed update to the state’s travel quarantine policy. This change represents an important turning point in the COVID-19 pandemic.  Effective Tuesday, February 23rd, people who are fully vaccinated and at least 14 days out from their final vaccine dose can travel to and from Vermont without quarantine restrictions. Two men are dead following a tugboat incident in the Gardner Canal near Kemano. On February 11, at 1240 a.m. RCMP West Coast Marine were tasked by the joint Rescue Coordination Centre after an emergency beacon was received from a tugboat in the Canal. The RCMP West Coast Marine responded and found the first deceased man. The Canadian Coast Guard also assisted and found the second deceased man. One man was spotted by a private helicopter on the shore and taken to a local hospital. The tugboat involved was towing a barge that was en route from Kitimat to Kemano.
