DEAR ABBY: My husband and I were married nine years. He unexpectedly left me when COVID first hit. We were apart for a year and eight months and ended up divorcing. I filed because, even though I didn't want to believe it, I eventually accepted that it was over. Even though he hadn't actually filed the papers, he had taken all other necessary steps. It was the first time in my life I had ever felt this level of heartbreak.

DEAR ABBY: The other day I went to the pool in my neighborhood and found there were four lounge chairs with towels on them indicating they were "reserved." They are the best chairs in the pool area because they are covered by a small roof and protected from the sun. I then had to use another chair that only partially covered me.

DEAR ABBY: I have been dating a wonderful man for two years. He has two grown children, 27 and 21. Both have good jobs and work full time. I have a son who is 12. The issue is family vacations, and paying for things while on vacation.

DEAR ABBY: I want to thank you for a letter you published in 2007. It came from a woman saying her daughter had "convergence insufficiency disorder," in which the eye drifts and causes double vision. I was 61 and had that problem, but I never knew what it was.

DEAR ABBY: My best friend, "Laura," had an affair with a married man for 20 years. He had been married twice before, and both wives died. He's only 50, so I find it odd that both of his previous wives died. His second wife passed while Laura was his mistress. She is able to be married to him only because of his second wife's death -- he was never going to leave her.
