Diabetic friend's struggles with disease cause concern

DEAR ABBY: My best friend, who is 54, has had Type 1 diabetes since she was 9. She takes two insulin shots a day -- one in the morning and one in the evening. We live together, and at night her blood sugar drops pretty low. I can tell when it's happening because she becomes unresponsive. Twice she has had seizures that resulted in 911 calls.

OPINION | DEAR ABBY: Grandmother feels anything but welcome when she visits

DEAR ABBY: When I visit my three grandchildren on Fridays, my daughter-in-law never offers me any refreshment -- not even a glass of water or a cup of tea. Husband bitter when wife succeeds where he failed

DEAR ABBY: A few years ago, my husband, unhappy in his job, decided he wanted to be a real estate agent. He quit his job to do full-time real estate, and really struggled. He asked me to also get a license to help (I have a great office job). I didn't want to at first because I knew I would end up doing almost all the work, but I did it anyway.

DEAR ABBY: After my mother died several years ago, my father's sometimes violent behavior flared up. A few years ago, I decided to stop spending time with him. My sister, who has received -- and may continue to receive -- significant financial support from Dad, is scolding me for it. I have asked her to respect my choice and to stop criticizing, but she continues to contact me, asks to see me, accuses me of "punishing" her and my father over "nothing," and makes vague apologies for him without referencing specific behavior.

OPINION | DEAR ABBY: Older sis won't stop talking politics during friendly visits

DEAR ABBY: My older sister visits me every week to play cards and chat. While I love her dearly and enjoy her visits, sometimes I do not appreciate one topic she brings up.
