Gears Dev The Coalition are the First Major AAA Studio to Upgrade to Unreal Engine 5 May 10, 2021 12:07 EDT In 2020 Epic games provided a first peek at Unreal Engine 5 via their breathtaking “Lumen in the Land of Nanite” demo, and yet, nearly a year later, we haven't heard much about games actually using UE5. At this point, it’s literally a list of one – Ninja Theory’s upcoming Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. InXile Entertainment has also said their unnamed next RPG will use the engine. Well, now another Microsoft-owned studio, Gears developer The Coalition, has announced they’re jumping aboard the Unreal Engine 5 train! Unfortunately, the Vancouver, Canada-based studio hasn’t confirmed what UE5 games they’re working on, but still, this is the first major AAA studio to announce their support for the engine. While Gears 5 content updates will continue, the studio has confirmed that it is now shifting its resources to next-gen games projects, and Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5 will be powering them. " Gears of War has always been at the front of Unreal Engine development – as a breakout 720p title for Xbox 360 through last year’s 120FPS multiplayer update for Xbox Series X|S – and we’re excited to continue that tradition by developing on UE5 for multiple new projects in the coming years," said the studio in a blog post explaining the decision.

Wasteland 3 DLC The Battle of Steeltown Announced The Battle of Steeltown narrative expansion releases. Announced by inXile Entertainment and Deep Silver, the expansion will center around a worker rebellion. As a result, manufacturing in Steeltown has ceased, and the Rangers have been sent in to investigate. There will be choices that players will have to make during the new campaign, and those choices will have an impact on the story. Players will be able to enjoy the game's first narrative expansion in single-player, or in co-op. The expansion will also add several new elements, including weapons, armor, and enemies. Steeltown is a new factory complex that players will be able to navigate in the expansion. The factory provides the guns, armor, and vehicles the Patriarch needs to maintain control over Colorado. If allowed to continue, the shutdown could have a massive impact on the war effort, but players will have to decide for themselves whether or not that's a good thing.
Wasteland 3 is getting two expansions overall We got our first tease for Wasteland 3‘s upcoming expansion The Battle of Steeltown this week. One of the lead developers says this is one of two DLC packs coming to the RPG game, and commented on the ways the world will be fleshed out. Brian Fargo, the founder of inXile Entertainment, and director of every Wasteland game, took to Twitter to divulge the info as the Steeltown trailer made the rounds. “There will two expansions in total for Wasteland 3, and we add content into Ranger HQ and provide extra audio throughout the main game to increase reactivity,” He posted. “Plus, we added quite a few more songs for the game.”

The DLC will be available across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and priced at $13.99. – ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW – The Battle of Steeltown will slot into the core game of Wasteland 3, adding in alongside the main game’s story with new locations, quests, gear and new twists to the game’s combat. Prepare for some fraught battles against new robotic enemies, and keep an eye out for telegraphed attacks, stacked status effects, elemental shields and non-lethal weapons. Steeltown has a pivotal role in the power balance of Colorado, as the manufacturing hub behind the Patriarch’s empire, but things have been going wrong. Shipments are late, the shipments are wrong, and items are going missing, and the Patriarch has tasked you and the Rangers to go and investigate.

That'll be where you come in to fight some bandit baddies and choose how to shove the town back on course. InXile Entertainment say that when the Steeltown story begins, important deliveries of armor and guns from the factory town have stopped and the Patriarch needs you to go check in on the town's leader Abigail Markham. "When he sends the Rangers to investigate, they find the place is a powder keg with the fuse already lit," they say. "The workers are striking, bandits raid with impunity, and nobody is allowed through the gates, not even on the business of the Patriarch. Without help, Steeltown could crash and burn for good, and take Markham with it—but maybe that's just what it needs."
Wasteland 3 Gets Steeltown DLC, Out on PS4 This June We consider Wasteland 3 to be a "fantastic post-apocalyptic RPG" with great writing and satisfying combat. We said as much back when the game came to PlayStation 4 back in August 2020, awarding it an 8/10 rating in the Push Square review. That tactical experience is now being expanded with an expansion named The Battle of Steeltown, coming to PS4 on 3rd June 2021. And while it's definitely a short trailer, you can start to get a sense of what to expect from the DLC in the announcement trailer above. It'll cost $13.99 at launch. Steeltown has become the centrepiece of a takeover from raiding bandits and workers on strike, and nobody can escape the place's locked gates. It has now become the Raiders' job to either restore order or sit back and watch it all crash and burn.
