Commerce minister says trade can spur regional economic recovery
China is calling on members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum to accelerate the cross-border flow of vaccines and rejuvenate the World Trade Organization to support regional economic recovery through trade, the country's top commerce official said.

China's rosy foreign trade performance will sustain its GDP growth momentum in the first quarter of this year, consolidating the country's fundamentals for steady and sound economic growth in the post-pandemic era, observers and business leaders said.
With the country's foreign trade soaring 32.2 percent year-on-year to 5.44 trillion yuan ($828.6 billion) in the first two months of the year, they projected that China's economy and opening-up will add greater impetus to the global business recovery in the first quarter and give support to its 6-plus percent GDP target for 2021.

A new engineering and design startup called Silk EV headquartered in Italy’s venerable Motor Valley is more than just another attempt at making an electric hypercar. It’s also the latest arrow in the quiver for China’s massive Belt and Road project, though the first that deals with electric cars.
Silk EV announced on Tuesday that it will co-develop an “ultra-luxury hypercar” called the S9 in the home region of Lamborghini and Ferrari with First Automobile Works (FAW), China’s original state-owned automaker. The S9 will be part of the Chinese automaker’s longstanding Hongqi brand, which means “red flag” and was once exclusively made for high-ranking Chinese government officials before becoming more widely available.

CHANGCHUN - Companies and local governments in China, the United States and Italy on Tuesday agreed to launch a joint venture for developing sports models of China's iconic sedan brand Hongqi.
The Hongqi S-series project, jointly launched by China's FAW Group and US company Silk EV LLC, will have an investment of 10 billion yuan ($1.55 billion), aiming to build the series into a world-class luxury sports vehicle brand, according to an agreement signed via video link.

MODENA, Italy and CHANGCHUN, China, Feb. 3, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Silk EV, an international automotive engineering and design company, and FAW, China’s largest car manufacturer, announced today that they have launched a joint venture to develop a series of ultra-luxury, high-performance, new energy sports vehicles for the China and global markets.
The Silk-FAW Joint Venture plans to launch the new full electric and hybrid luxury models under the Hongqi ‘S’ series – the first model of this series will be the ultra-luxury hypercar, the S9. The Hongqi S9 will be designed and manufactured in Regione Emilia-Romagna, the heart of Italy’s Motor Valley, where Silk EV has its headquarters. As development of the Hongqi ‘S’ Series lineup continues, production will be in both Italy and Changchun, where FAW’s headquarters is located.

The styling of the S9 is "in the final phase" and the production model will be unveiled at the Shanghai auto show in April, design chief Walter de Silva said.
MILAN -- Chinese automaker FAW Group and U.S. startup company Silk EV said they plan to invest up to 1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) to design, develop and build high performance electric cars in Italy and China. The cars will be styled by Volkswagen Group's former design chief Walter de Silva.
The first model will be the S9 hypercar, shown as a concept model at the 2019 Frankfurt auto show. Three other models are planned – the S7, S5, S3.
