YANGON, Feb 28 — Myanmar security forces opened fire on protestors today, killing at least eight in the bloodiest action so far to smother opposition to the military coup four weeks ago.
The junta is battling to contain a massive street movement demanding it yield power and release ousted civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was detained along with top political allies at the start of the month.

YANGON, Feb 26 — Myanmar’s ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been moved to an undisclosed location from the home where she was being kept under house arrest in the capital Naypyitaw, Myanmar Now website said today, citing officials in her party.
Suu Kyi has been detained since a February 1 coup.

BANGKOK, Feb 25 — The Myanmar junta’s foreign minister visited Thailand yesterday as regional powers tried to broker an end to three weeks of deadly unrest triggered by a military coup.
The talks came as an anti-coup protester died in detention, a local rescue organisation said. Four others have been killed in the crackdown.
Foreign minister Wunna Maung Lwin held talks with his counterparts from Thailand and Indonesia in what was the first known face-to-face meetings between a senior junta member and foreign government officials.

BRUSSELS, Feb 23 ― The European Union warned it is considering sanctions on Myanmar while Washington penalised two more generals for links to the military coup, as Western countries sought to pressure the junta to avoid a violent crackdown after weeks of protests.
