COVID: Confirmed Indian variant cases in Worcestershire


THERE are isolated cases of the indian variant in Worcestershire according to Public Health England. 
Dr Kathryn Cobain, Director of Public Health for Worcestershire, says they are aware of isolated cases in Worcestershire of the variant first identified in India and that it is right to be cautious .
She said: “Our Public Health team are continuing to work with PHE to ensure an appropriate response is taken for every variant of concern.
As with many other Local Authorities, we are aware of isolated cases in Worcestershire of the variant first identified in India.
It is right that we should be cautious about any new variants of the virus, and I appreciate that people may be anxious in the current climate.   ....

Quebec aiming to enable 12-17 year olds to be vaccinated before end of June: Dubé


Quebec is aiming before the end of June to enable adolescents 12 to 17 years old to get a first vaccine, following Health Canada’s approval of the Pfizer vaccine for 12 to 15 year olds, Health Minister Christian Dubé announced.
“Our Public Health have told us that we can go forward with vaccinations for 12 to 17 year olds, and that’s very good news,” Dubé said. “The Comité sur l’immunisation du Québec (CIQ) wil give us an opinion that will come in [the week of May 10] confirming the use of vaccines for this age group. Daniel Paré’s (the direction of Quebec’s COVID vaccination campaign) teams are already preparing to vaccinate 12 to 17 year olds and to give a first dose before the end of June. We are aiming to give a second dose for our young people for the next back-to-school period.” ....

Workers have been tested after two ‘probable’ cases of the Brazilian Covid-19 variant at a company.
A mobile testing unit was set up at LKQ Euro Car Parts, based at Birch Coppice Business Park in Danny Morson Way, Dordon, Tamworth, over the weekend. There will also be additional testing ‘over the coming weeks . ....

Health chiefs and drug abuse agencies in Plymouth are warning users to beware of a lethal new designer drug which has been implicated in the deaths of a number of people.
In February 2019 PlymouthLive reported on concerns over blue Valium which was believed to be linked to the death of one man and the hospitalisation of four others. ....
