Zara Realty is halfway to completing its ambitious project of installing solar technology on every building it owns in Queens. Solar panels have been installed on 26 of the 45 buildings Zara Realty owns and manages in Queens, enough to power more than 125 households, producing 1.3 million kWh. The project is expected to be completed at the end of 2021.

Nearly 3,000 of the planned 6,500 panels have been installed and are supplying energy. The $6.5 million installation project is being carried out by veteran-owned New York based Premier Solar Solutions, a veteran-owned New York based solar installation company. The project supports 50 jobs.
“If there is one thing this last year of challenges has made clear, it’s that we all must do whatever we can to help one another and help our planet,” said

A $6.5 million residential solar project is going up in Queens, New York, that will eventually power the common areas of all 45 of the Zara Realty buildings. To date, solar panels have been installed on 26 buildings, producing 1.3 million kilowatt hours about half the 2.7 million kilowatt hours that will be produced when the project is completed at the end of this year. When completed, it will be the borough’s largest residential solar energy project.
The project is being built by Premier Solar Solutions, a veteran-owned New York-based solar installation company. Zara Realty co-managing partner Amir Subraj says the project is one in an ongoing series of the company’s investments in infrastructure that will not only lead to cleaner air but will also ultimately reduce costs.

Two pieces of the city’s redevelopment of the former Spofford Juvenile Detention Center in the Bronx made the list of 10 largest projects filed in the five boroughs in November.
“The Peninsula” project aims to transform the five-acre Spofford property into a mixed-use live-work community. The campus would eventually feature 740 units of affordable housing, 52,000 square feet of recreational space and 49,000 square feet of light industrial space.
Gary Barnett-led Extell Development’s 534-key hotel project in the Diamond District also made the list.
