NZ NBL: Final Four positioning still on the line in last round of season

Devondrick Walker and the Hawke’s Bay Hawks have found form at the right stage of the season.
OPINION: It’s the final round of the NBL season and the top four is confirmed. The exact finishing order and semifinal match-ups are still to be determined though, setting up an interesting final weekend. BRENDON EGAN looks at the key talking points for round 12.
Finals permutations
The hometown Wellington Saints have top spot locked up for the Final Four in Porirua, which will be contested next Thursday and Friday. Southland and Hawke's Bay, who both have a 12-5 record, are likely to meet in one semifinal (two versus three), but it's not quite guaranteed. The fourth placed Auckland Huskies could still potentially jump up, but it would require several scenarios playing out. Auckland must beat the Saints on Saturday and hope both the Hawks and Sharks lose, forcing a three-way tie.

NZ NBL: The 'joke' that lured Troy McLean back to the Saints after six year hiatus

The Saints mean the world to McLean. A born-and-bred Wellingtonian, he debuted for the team in 1996 against the Hutt Valley Lakers as a 17-year-old Rongotai College schoolboy.
He holds the record for games played for the club (269) and has spent 16 seasons with them, winning three championships in 2003, 2010, and 2011.

McLean has played the fourth most games in NBL history (320), also spending two seasons with the Manawatū Jets (2013-14) and another in 2006 with the defunct Harbour Heat.
Injuries and a shortage of top-level depth in New Zealand basketball with the Australian NBL operating at the same time helped pave the way for a Saints’ return.

Hawke's Bay national basketball league hopefuls the Taylor Hawks have appointed a new coaching team after previously appointed coach Adam Forde's decision to go with the Sydney Kings in the Australian NBL.
One of the
most promising coaches in Australia, Forde was appointed head coach at the Hawks last July, when he was reported to have already been in contact with players to discuss their goals and aspirations.
In December it was announced he had been made head coach of the Kings, where he had previously been involved as an assistant.
