There will be a continued exodus to Laval, the South Shore and West Island for shopping, entertainment and, oh yeah, free parking.
The City of Montreal is backtracking a move by the municipal parking agency to extend parking meter hours downtown after new stickers appeared on meters without prior warning. The extension would require drivers to pay the meter until 11 p.m. six nights a week.
This could drive yet another nail in the coffin for downtown commerce.
'Grand Prix, for us, is what launches the season of summer months and really opens up the valves of tourism back in Montreal,' said one tourism expert. After the F1 event was cancelled for two years, bars and hotels are bracing for a big comeback.
