Augusta County Clerk of Circuit Court R. Steven Landes announced this week that Ramona Shelton and Ben Allen have been named clerk’s interns for the summer. These two young people are third set of students to be selected for the Clerk’s Office Internship Program. “Our office is very pleased to have both Ramona and Ben join the Clerk’s Office as our first summer interns selected as part of our ongoing Clerk’s Office Internship Program,” Landes said. “We look forward to having both students serving in the office this summer.” ....
View Comments VERONA A man shot last week in Stuarts Draft by an Augusta County Sheriff s Office deputy remained hospitalized Monday, according to Virginia State Police. Deonte L. Harris, 31, of Waynesboro, was shot early Thursday morning by a deputy responding to a report of an animal larceny. Records show Harris has had an ongoing legal issue involving a dog since at least February. He s also the twin brother of a man currently charged with murder in Waynesboro. On Thursday shortly before 1 a.m., the deputy shot Harris in the 100 block of Farmside Street in Stuarts Draft. The deputy was responding to a domestic situation and a stolen dog report. The sheriff s office said the deputy encountered Harris, who was sitting in a vehicle. ....
View Comments STAUNTON A woman reportedly armed with a handgun kept Augusta County authorities at bay during a standoff Tuesday that lasted several hours, a press release said. After negotiations failed, shortly before 4 p.m. members of the Augusta County Sheriff s Office entered the home and ended the armed standoff. County authorities were called out to the 700 block of Parkersburg Turnpike shortly before 9:30 a.m. to serve a court order and conduct a welfare check on the woman, who is in her 60s, the release said. Threats to shoot the deputies were made, and the woman barricaded herself inside the home, according to the press release. ....
