The date was March 12, 2020. Local, county and state officials gathered at Fredonia Village Hall, standing shoulder to shoulder, no masks in sight, to discuss the novel coronavirus that was dominating much of the national and international headlines after the World Health Organization declared a pandemic. SUNY Fredonia was sending its students home for the remainder of the semester and Jamestown Community College was shifting to on-line learning.
The overarching message at that press conference was “Don’t panic. We’re keeping an eye on this.” There were 325 cases in New York state, but the closest known case was in Monroe County, two hours away by car. There were no known cases throughout the 57th Senate District, which includes Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties. ....

After a three-year hiatus, the Jamestown Community College swimming & diving team will be back in the pool, and head coach Todd Conklin could not be more thrilled to spearhead its return.
“We’re excited to get this program back up and running,” Conklin said. “It will be different this season as we will be competing in a virtual meets during the regular season. The main goal is to beat the clock every time and find ourselves in the national meet.” ....

Dorothy V. Davis, 93, of Heritage Village, Gerry N.Y., went on to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 5, 2021 in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
The eldest daughter of Swedish immigrants, Alfred and Julia (Swanson) Olson, she was born Jan. 14, 1928 in Jamestown, N.Y. She was preceded by her husband, Paul B. Davis, passing on Nov. 29, 2020 after a marriage of 70 years and a son, Timothy P. Davis in 2002.
She is survived by two children, a son Steven L. Davis of Pittsfield, P.A., a daughter Kathleen Martin of Frewsburg, N.Y., two sisters Florence Johnson of Ashville, N.Y., Nancy Crimmins of Granbury, T.X., eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. ....
