Class of ’59 renews green vision for the College Lodge

New solar panels, continuing green energy initiatives at the College Lodge.
They may have graduated from Fredonia more than five decades ago, but members of the Class of 1959 have proven to be forward-thinkers. They have raised, and continue to raise, significant dollars to support sustainability projects that benefit the College Lodge.
It was at their 50-year reunion that class members launched a visionary campaign to generate ongoing funding for green energy initiatives at the lodge.
“We wanted to do something for the college, and we felt that green energy was the thing to do because it was costing the lodge money for electricity,” said Senior Class President Ed Buseck. Class members cherished the lodge, which was an ideal setting for camping, nature walks and skiing. ....

Piano festival at Fredonia to recognize underrepresented composers | News, Sports, Jobs

A series of virtual experiences celebrating the lives and works of underrepresented composers will be showcased at the State University at Fredonia School of Music’s second annual Robert Jordan Piano Festival during April.
Named in the memory of Professor Emeritus Robert Jordan, who taught at the School of Music from 1980 to 2004, the festival will feature solo and collaborative piano music written by diverse/underrepresented composers, including women, African Americans and members of the LGTBQ community.

That’s the exclamation point Interim Vice President for University Advancement and Fredonia College Foundation Executive Director Betty Gossett places on “Nurturing Innovation: The Campaign for Fredonia.”
The fund drive for the State University of New York at Fredonia was an unparalleled success, raising over $24.5 million – exceeding its goal by more than 20 percent.
“When we launched, we knew this would be our most ambitious, comprehensive campaign in Fredonia’s history. We experienced an amazing outpouring of support throughout the campaign,” Ms. Gossett reflected. She attributes its outcome to the dedication of alumni, friends of the university, local businesses and organizations and an enthusiastic and committed team, all who want to see SUNY Fredonia and its students thrive. ....

Amy Schmitt, an office assistant at the State University of New York at Fredonia School of Music, has received the Poummit Secretarial Award, named in honor of Janet Marks, a former secretary to the Fredonia president.
It was noted that Schmitt greets everyone entering the School of Music office – a busy place that steadily attracts faculty, work study students, music students and visitors – with a smile. She’s an avid supporter of the School of Music, sharing events on Facebook and promoting attendance. Schmitt connects with students, attends these events and has become somewhat of a surrogate mom to many students. ....

Jack Glenzer
John “Jack” Glenzer has always maintained a sense of loyalty to his family and community. But on this day, his 90th birthday, Chautauqua County is celebrating his contributions.
Glenzer, a Fredonia resident, was the second Chautauqua County executive, earning election in1983. Additionally, he served his country in the U.S. Army, was a member of the Fredonia Fire Department and greatly involved in the Salvation Army.
His most important connections, however, came from his family. For 59 years, he was married to Joan Lupean Glenzer, who passed in 2017. “He adored my mother,” said his daughter, Jana Goodrich. “They did everything together.” ....
